Final Sound Ideas (Joe French)

For the final sounds, we decided to record all the sounds post production because we thought it would sound better and clearer. For every sound, i recorded it with a microphone making a sound with the items used in the film related to what the sound was. We made a list of different sounds that we needed to recreate in order to fit the story.

For the television beep and the footsteps, we used royalty free sounds in order to get these. The rest were recorded by me with a microphone. They were fairly easy to recreate because most of the sounds could be recreated with household items. For example, the paper rustling could easily be recreated with paper and the knives could be recreated with a couple of knives being rustled together in a cloth. The most difficult sound to re create was the dripping of blood, i did this by dropping small amounts of water onto paper in order to create the liquid dripping sound.

As you can see from these pictures is the process i went through to create the sounds, the microphone picked up sounds i was making on the table. I had some difficulties with making the sounds because my hands were getting in the way of the mic and i would occasionally knock it over by accident by trying to reach my hand around it in order to interact with the objects i was using to create the sound. I would also be wearing headphones when making these sounds so that i could hear what the objects would sound like once they were created.

For the voice over, i got my mum to read the script for the voice over into the mic whilst i listened through my headphones. This helped because we wanted to voice over to be done by a British female in order to fit the tone of the scene and generally public service announcements are done by females. I then added a high pass filter onto the voice over in order to make it sound more like it was coming from a radio because footage from a TV generally has a higher frequency and when listening to TV playing in a film generally sounds as if its got a higher frequency so that is why i added it.
